Overview
Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Awesome' is a miniature variegated cultivar of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its very small size, lance-shaped leaves with medium green flat margins, and a slow, upright growth habit.
In the Garden
Reaching a mature diameter of 4 inches (10.2 cm) and a height of 2.5 inches (6.4 cm), 'Awesome' is among the smallest hosta cultivars. Its compact dimensions make it well suited for troughs, fairy gardens, or the front edge of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs naturally with other miniature hostas, small ferns, or fine-textured groundcovers. Given its size, it is an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its diminutive stature may make it less conspicuous to browsing animals.
