Overview
Registered in 2005, *Hosta* 'Avery Angel' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its intensely greenish-yellow leaves with a broad, feathery, speckled white margin. The leaf surface is matte and velvety above, slightly shiny beneath, and the broadly ovate, lightly cupped blades have flat margins.
In the Garden
This slow-growing, mound-forming plant reaches approximately 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white margins remain crisp and the greenish-yellow center holds its color. 'Avery Angel' pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and take protective measures if these pests are present in the garden.
