Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Red October' registered in 2008, 'August Fire' is a small, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with narrow white margins and red scapes. The leaf blade is grayish green with a flat, white margin 0.25 inches (0.6 cm) wide, lance-shaped with a cordate base, dull on the upper surface and glaucous beneath, bearing eight pairs of veins and a lightly wavy edge.
In the Garden
Reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, this mound-forming hosta is suited to partial shade and typical hosta-growing zones. Its compact size makes it appropriate for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers. Companion plants might include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and manage as needed.
