Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, 'At the Ritz' is a large hosta cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its blue-green leaves with white margins that are irregularly streaked with yellow, creamy yellow, and light green. The leaf surface is dull above with a thin glaucous bloom beneath, and the margins are slightly rippled, contributing to a moderately corrugated texture.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a substantial mound 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height and 45 inches (114.3 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or background plant in shaded to partially shaded borders. Its large, ovate leaves with cordate to rounded bases pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its blue-green and variegated foliage. Due to its size, it is not recommended for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly on the tender new foliage.
