Overview

Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Arc de Triomphe' is a large, upright cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Foxy Doxy'* (pod parent) and *H. hypoleuca* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its broad, blue-green leaves with wide, golden-yellow margins that are slightly rippled, and for its glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides.

In the Garden

'Arc de Triomphe' reaches a mature size of 24 inches (61 cm) in height and 35 inches (89 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, where the leaf color remains truest. Its upright habit and substantial foliage make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders, paired with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, though standard slug control measures are advisable in damp conditions, and deer may browse the foliage.
