Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Aracus' is a small-sized cultivar derived from *H.* 'Permanent Wave' (pod parent) with unknown pollen parentage. It is distinguished by its intensely rippled, heavily cupped, and deeply twisted lanceolate leaves of medium blue-green, which form an undulating, mound-like clump of notable textural interest.

In the Garden

'Permanent Wave' performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glaucous bloom and heavy leaf rippling are most pronounced. At maturity, the clump reaches approximately 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. Its compact size and striking foliage texture make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, where it pairs well with fine-textured ferns or small woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as the heavily textured leaves may be attractive to both pests.
