Overview

Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Abiqua Recluse', 'Appalachian Beauty' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, golden yellow margins. The ovate, lightly cupped leaves are moderately corrugated, measure up to 12 inches long and 9 inches wide, and bear a thin glaucous bloom on the undersides, with 12 to 13 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Appalachian Beauty' reaches approximately 24 inches in height and 50 inches in diameter, forming a substantial mound suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its large, blue-green leaves with gold margins pair well with ferns, heucheras, or fine-textured grasses in woodland or shade garden settings. The green scapes, reaching 24 to 36 inches, bear lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
