Overview
Registered in 2001, this small hosta cultivar originated from a cross between a streaked selection of *Hosta* 'Crepe Suzette' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Halcyon' (pollen parent). 'Anglo Saxon' is visually distinctive for its medium green, broadly ovate leaves with narrow, flat, yellow margins and moderate corrugation, which together produce a puckered, rounded leaf surface.
In the Garden
'Anglo Saxon' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching approximately 12.5 inches (31.8 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to light shade, typical of most hostas, and is well suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its small stature. Its tidy habit and variegated foliage pair effectively with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may cause damage to the foliage, so monitoring and appropriate deterrents are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
