Overview

Registered in 1993, this small variegated hosta is a hybrid of *H. 'August Moon'* and *H. 'Tardiflora'*. 'Andy Taylor' is distinguished by its dark green leaf margins and satiny upper surface, with leaves that taper at the base and measure 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, bearing eight vein pairs.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of 24 inches (61.0 cm) and height of 12 inches (30.5 cm), 'Andy Taylor' forms a compact clump suitable for the front of a border or as edging. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small woodland perennials. Its small stature also makes it a candidate for troughs or container plantings.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in garden settings.
