Overview
Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Abby', 'Amy Elizabeth' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with narrow, medium green, slightly rippled margins. The ovate, lightly cupped leaves are dull on the upper surface and bear a thin glaucous bloom beneath, with nine to ten vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Amy Elizabeth' reaches a mature spread of approximately 35 inches (88.9 cm) and a height of 13 inches (33.0 cm), forming a dense, fast-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, and is well suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation due to its compact size. Companion plants may include ferns, heucheras, or small shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Amy Elizabeth' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
