Overview
Registered in 2007, 'American Yeti' resulted from self-pollination of *Hosta* 'American King of the Woods'. This giant cultivar is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, broadly ovate leaves that reach 18 inches in length and 15 inches in width, with slightly rippled margins and a heavy glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The leaves display strongly impressed veins above and correspondingly elevated veins beneath, contributing to a textured, substantial appearance.
In the Garden
'American Yeti' forms a large, fast-growing mound 44 inches (111.8 cm) tall and 65 inches (165.1 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for use as a specimen or background plant in shaded to partially shaded borders. Its blue-green foliage pairs well with golden or chartreuse-leaved companions such as *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' or ferns like *Dryopteris* species. Due to its substantial size, this cultivar is not appropriate for container culture.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through cultural or physical controls in typical hosta-growing zones.
