Overview

Registered in 2002 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Amanuma' is a miniature hybrid derived from *H. venusta* (pod parent) and *H. capitata* (pollen parent). The cultivar is distinguished by its small, ovate leaves with light green, slightly rippled margins and a dull upper surface, set against a medium greenish-yellow scape.

In the Garden

'Amanuma' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is well-suited to rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its miniature size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where it pairs effectively with small ferns or shade-tolerant sedges.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
