Overview

Registered in 2015 by M. Zilis and J. Schwarz, *Hosta* 'Aloha' is a medium-sized sport of *H.* 'Hawaiian Luau' distinguished by its blue-green leaf centers and variable yellow margins. The leaves are narrowly elliptic with a tapered base, moderately wavy, and exhibit a glaucous bloom on the undersides, while the upper surface is slightly shiny.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its thick leaf substance provides good resistance to foliar damage. The blue-green and gold coloration makes it suitable for border plantings, shade gardens, or as a specimen in mixed containers, pairing well with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves offer some resistance to slugs, though standard hosta pest precautions may still be warranted in high-pressure areas.
