Overview
Registered in 2000 by P. Ruh, 'Allegan Gent' is a sport of an unnamed parent, distinguished by its medium green leaves with a 0.5-inch (1.3 cm) wide, green-streaked, slightly rippled margin. The leaf surface is slightly shiny above and dull beneath, with a cordate base and 11 vein pairs.
In the Garden
This medium-sized hosta reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with an upright, moderate growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for variegated hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials. Its compact size makes it suitable for border fronts or small garden spaces.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing; monitor and manage accordingly.
