Overview
Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Alice in Wonderland' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Flamboyant'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Banana Sundae'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its stable, yellow-centered leaves with broad, flat, medium green margins, a coloration that does not fade or "white out" with maturity.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 35 inches (88.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size makes it appropriate for border fronts, woodland gardens, or mixed shade beds. The blue-green leaf centers with gold margins provide contrast when paired with darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hosta cultivars.
