Overview
Registered in 1998, this large hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *H.* 'White Vision' and *H. montana macrophylla*. It is visually distinguished by its broad green leaves with flat yellow-gold margins and a cordate leaf base, forming a substantial mound.
In the Garden
Reaching a mature diameter of 39 inches (99.1 cm) and height of 19 inches (48.3 cm), 'Alice Gladden' forms a dense, mound-like clump with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed.
