Overview

Registered in 1999, 'Albert Lea' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Maple Leaf' that produces a giant, upright clump of blue-green foliage. The leaves are notably large, reaching 12.3 inches (31.2 cm) in length and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in width, with slightly rippled margins, a cordate base, and a dull surface on both sides. The scape is blue-green and reaches 34 inches (86.4 cm) in height.

In the Garden

With a mature diameter of 35 inches (88.9 cm) and height of 27 inches (68.6 cm), 'Albert Lea' is best sited in partial to full shade, where its blue-green leaves maintain their color. Its moderate growth rate and upright habit make it suitable for mid-border or as a specimen plant in woodland gardens. Pair with ferns, *Heuchera*, or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its broad, blue-green leaves.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may cause damage; monitor regularly and apply controls as needed. This cultivar is hardy in typical hosta-growing zones.
