Overview
Registered in 1986 by N. Suggs, this large hosta cultivar is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Golden Waffles'. It is distinguished by its green leaves with light yellow margins and broadly cordate leaf bases.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Alabama Gold' reaches a mature spread of approximately 33 inches (83.8 cm) and a height of 25 inches (63.5 cm), with scapes rising to 28 inches (71.1 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen plant in woodland gardens. Its substantial size makes it an effective groundcover when planted in groups.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
