Overview

Registered in 1998 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Fortunei Aureomarginata', 'Academy Redundant' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaves with pure white margins. The leaf blades measure 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, with 10 vein pairs and a cordate base, while the flat white margins are approximately 0.19 inches (0.5 cm) wide.

In the Garden

'Academy Redundant' forms a mound-like clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 43 inches (109.2 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. Scapes rise 21 to 30 inches (53.3 to 76.2 cm) above the foliage. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, and *Astilbe*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Academy Redundant' is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
