Overview
Registered in 1997 by H. Chamberlain, 'Academy Muse' is a medium-sized hosta of unknown parentage. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its medium green to gold leaf centers bordered by a one-inch-wide, dark green, flat margin, with dull surfaces on both sides.
In the Garden
This hosta forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for variegated cultivars, where the gold centers remain brightest. The 8.5-inch (21.6 cm) leaves with cordate bases and ten vein pairs pair well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials; its medium size suits border fronts or woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, especially in full shade, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Academy Muse' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring protective measures where these pests are prevalent.
