Overview
Registered in 2003, 'Academy Isengard' is a medium-sized variegated hosta originating as a seedling of *Hosta* 'Ginko Craig'. It forms a flattened, mound-like clump with medium green leaves bearing slightly rippled margins, a light sheen on the upper surface, and a pronounced gloss beneath.
In the Garden
Mature plants reach approximately 42 inches (107 cm) in diameter and 20 inches (51 cm) in height, with a fast growth rate. The ovate leaves, 9 inches (23 cm) long and 4.5 inches (11 cm) wide, display 7 to 9 vein pairs and a rounded base with light waviness. Scapes rise 32 to 45 inches (81 to 114 cm) tall, bearing tightly clustered blooms over an extended period; scapes are medium green with purple spotting. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and combines well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials. Its medium size suits border fronts or woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed.
