Xanadu Paisley

Hosta "Xanadu Paisley" review

Hosta 'Xanadu Paisley ' is a sport of Hosta 'August Moon'. In nearly every respect, it is identical to it's parent. Except it is slightly larger, slightly more vigorous, and outrageously variegated. The variegation is 99% stable, one plant in about one hundred has gone to the 'Abiqua Moonbeam' form. Pod and pollen fertile, it is a heavy seed producer. The variegation is so random and so asymmetrical that no two leaves are ever the same. The base color is that of Hosta 'August Moon' , and like 'August Moon ' varies from apple green in deeper shade to near white when over exposed. The variegation is stable all season long, but it is subject to the same sun bleaching as the base color. I have found ( here in NW Indiana zone 5a ) that is showiest when planted where it will begin to catch shade from late Spring on ( morning sun isn't a factor). It is a strong plant that multiplies readily, tolerant of heat and drought, and holds well through early frosts. It really does not develop good fall color, but is still looking exceptional when many Hostas are down for the winter. If you are an eclectic gardener, this Hosta may have found a new home.
