Overview
Registered in 1988 by K. Vaughn, this giant hosta cultivar is a hybrid of *H.* 'Gold Piece' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Aztec Treasure' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its upright, mounding habit, large blue-green leaves with silvery undersides, and the pronounced twisting or undulation of the leaf margins that gives the cultivar its name.
In the Garden
*Hosta* 'Twist and Shout' is best suited to partial to full shade, where its substantial blue-green foliage and upright form provide a strong vertical accent in the border or woodland garden. At maturity, it forms a clump approximately 27 inches (68.6 cm) in diameter and 38 inches (96.5 cm) tall, with leaves reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in length and 13 inches (33.0 cm) in width. Its large size makes it appropriate for use as a specimen or in the middle to back of a mixed perennial bed, paired with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage can occur; monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
