Overview
Registered in 1973 by E. Minks as a sport of *Hosta* 'Subcrocea', 'Twinkle Toes' is a small hosta distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped green leaves with chartreuse to gold margins. The foliage measures 6 inches (15.2 cm) long and 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide, with three to four vein pairs, and the plant forms a compact mound 6 inches (15.2 cm) tall and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
'Twinkle Toes' performs best in partial to dappled shade, where its gold-edged leaves maintain good color without scorching. At maturity, the clump reaches approximately 6 inches in height and spreads to 12 inches across, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or troughs. It pairs well with other small hostas, ferns, or shade-tolerant groundcovers such as *Lamium* or *Tiarella*.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage and apply barriers if necessary.
