Overview

Registered in 1999 by A. Haskell, this small hosta is a sport of *Hosta* 'Fortunei Hyacinthina'. Its visual distinction lies in the medium green leaf margins that are streaked, creating a variegated effect against the lighter leaf center, with a slightly shiny surface on both sides.

In the Garden

'Hwilight Zone' forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other small shade perennials that complement its muted variegation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and protect as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
