Overview
Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Tuxedo' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Fascination'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Elegans'* (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its green-centered leaves with wide creamy white margins, a three-color pattern that develops as the season progresses.
In the Garden
'Tuxedo' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter at maturity. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, where its ovate, cordate-based leaves (9 inches/22.9 cm long, 5.5 inches/14.0 cm wide) display a flat profile with slightly rippled, dark green margins. The scapes rise 26 to 30 inches (66.0 to 76.2 cm) above the foliage. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its bold leaf structure.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Tuxedo' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones; monitor accordingly.
