Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Tutu' is a large, semi-upright cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Donahue Piecrust' and *H. pycnophylla*. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with heavily rippled medium green margins, a heavy glaucous bloom on the undersides, and a lightly corrugated, ovate leaf shape with cordate base.
In the Garden
*Hosta* 'Tutu' reaches a mature spread of approximately 48 inches (122 cm) and a height of 21 inches (53 cm), making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its large, textured foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its blue-green tones. The semi-upright habit allows it to integrate into mixed woodland gardens without overwhelming smaller companions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While typical hosta-growing zones support this cultivar, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed with appropriate barriers or deterrents.
