Overview
Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Turnabout' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Minuta Streaked' as the pod parent. Its most distinctive feature is the foliage orientation: the medium green leaves with narrow golden-yellow margins lie nearly horizontal, creating a flattened, radiating mound.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 24 inches (61 cm) and height of 10 inches (25.4 cm), 'Turnabout' forms a dense, fast-growing mound suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins hold their color without scorching. The low, spreading habit pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, or small spring bulbs, and the 24- to 32-inch (61–81 cm) scapes bearing light lavender flowers add vertical interest above the foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as shoots emerge. Typical hosta-growing zones apply; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed preventatively.
