Overview
Registered in 1999, 'Turbulent Seas' is a large hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Neat and Tidy'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Aspen Gold'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its broad, blue-green leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a dull upper surface, contrasted by a glaucous bloom on the underside.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 53 inches (134.6 cm) and a height of 28 inches (71.1 cm), making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its large, cordate-based leaves pair well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Given its moderate growth rate, it is not ideal for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While typical hosta-growing zones apply, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage for signs of feeding.
