Overview
Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Turbo Blue' is a large, upright cultivar derived from a first-generation seedling of *H. 'Dorothy Benedict'* with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, deeply corrugated, moderately cupped leaves of dark blue-green with unstable gold margins that may show streaks of varying yellow shades.
In the Garden
'Turbo Blue' performs best in partial to full shade, typical of blue-leaved hostas, where its glaucous bloom and variegation are most pronounced. At maturity, plants reach approximately 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 23 inches (58.4 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate that makes it suitable for specimen placement in woodland borders or shaded perennial beds. Its substantial leaf texture pairs well with fine-textured companions such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. While 'Turbo Blue' shows typical hosta resistance to deer, slug damage may occur on the broad, cupped leaves if conditions are moist.
