Overview
Registered in 1991 by R. Stephens, this giant hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *H. 'Green Piecrust'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Herifu'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its large, dark green leaves with few small undulations along the margins, combined with variegated foliage that provides contrast in the landscape.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Tucker Welcome' forms a substantial clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height, with individual leaves measuring 13 inches (33.0 cm) long by 11 inches (27.9 cm) wide and bearing 15 to 16 pairs of veins. Its scape rises to 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its large size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or for the back of a shaded border. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
