Overview
Registered in 1993, this large variegated hosta originated from a cross between a *Hosta* 'Wolcott' seedling (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Piedmont Gold' (pollen parent). 'Tucker Tigers' is distinguished by its very shiny, cordate-based leaves with light green, slightly rippled margins and a prominent variegated pattern, reaching 12.5 inches (31.8 cm) in length and 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) in width with 15 vein pairs.
In the Garden
Mature plants form a substantial clump 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter and 24 inches (61.0 cm) tall, with scapes rising to 26 inches (66.0 cm). This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. The shiny foliage provides textural contrast when paired with ferns, heucheras, or other fine-textured shade perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Tucker Tigers' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring protection in areas where these pests are prevalent.
