Overview
Registered in 1993, 'Tucker Pucker' is a large hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between a *Hosta montana* seedling (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Big Daddy' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its medium blue-green, heavily rippled leaves with cordate bases, dull surfaces on both sides, and 13 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a substantial clump reaching 25 inches (63.5 cm) in height and 43 inches (109.2 cm) in diameter, with leaves 10 inches (25.4 cm) long and 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it unsuitable for containers but effective as a specimen or in mixed borders.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
