Overview
Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster of the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Tsuma Tajima' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown parentage distinguished by its glossy, broadly ovate leaves with medium green, yellow, and greenish white streaked centers and flat white margins. The leaves are notably twisted, and the plant forms a compact, mound-like habit with very shiny upper surfaces and slightly shiny undersides.
In the Garden
'Tsuma Tajima' reaches a mature height of 10 inches (25.4 cm) and spreads to 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to light shade, typical for hosta-growing zones, and is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders due to its small stature. Companion plants may include small ferns, *Heuchera*, or miniature *Astilbe*; its compact size also makes it suitable for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and take protective measures if needed.
