H. ‘Tropical Storm’

Overview

Registered in 2007, 'Tropical Storm' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Rain Forest Sunrise' that produces a small clump of intensely corrugated, nearly round leaves. The foliage is medium green with a sharply defined, flat golden yellow margin approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide, with a slightly shiny upper surface and dull underside.

In the Garden

This compact cultivar reaches 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. Its small size and lightly cupped, corrugated leaves make it suitable for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It pairs well with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or small sedges, and its gold margins brighten darker areas of the garden.

Care Notes

Grow in moist, well-drained soil in partial to full shade, as typical for hosta-growing zones. Water regularly during dry periods; fertilize in early spring as growth emerges. The corrugated leaf texture may provide moderate resistance to slug and deer damage, though standard protective measures are advisable where these pests are prevalent.
