Registered in 2012, *Hosta* 'Tropic Thunder' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage (pollen parent unknown) derived from *H. 'Fat Cat'*. It is visually distinguished by its broadly ovate, dull green leaves with greenish-yellow margins, a flat profile, and notably good substance.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature size of 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter, forming a moderate-growing, mound-like clump. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size and good substance make it appropriate for border fronts, woodland gardens, or container plantings.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While the thick leaves offer some resistance, standard slug and deer precautions are recommended in areas where these pests are prevalent.
