Overview

Registered in 1998, *Hosta* 'Treasure Island' is a small, mound-forming cultivar derived as a sport from a select form of an unnamed parent. It is visually distinctive for its medium green leaves with slightly rippled margins, a very shiny upper surface, and a very shiny underside, creating a glossy, reflective appearance.

In the Garden

This compact hosta reaches approximately 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in diameter, forming a tidy mound with a moderate growth rate. It is best suited to partial to full shade, where its glossy foliage can be appreciated without scorching. Its small size makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, woodland edges, or the front of shaded borders; it also performs well in containers. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and small shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in typical hosta-growing zones.
