Overview

Registered in 1978 by Paul Ruh, 'Trail's End' is a giant hosta of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its large, cordate blue-green leaves with 16 vein pairs, forming a substantial mound 43 inches (109.2 cm) in diameter and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in height.

In the Garden

'Trail's End' is best suited to partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains color best. At giant size, it requires ample space and serves effectively as a specimen or background plant in woodland gardens and mixed shade borders. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its broad leaves.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
