Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Touchdown' is a small, mound-forming cultivar of unknown parentage, with *Hosta rupifraga* as the pod parent. Its most distinctive features are nearly round, deeply wavy leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins, a glossy upper surface, and a very shiny, glaucous underside.

In the Garden

'Touchdown' is suited for partial to full shade, where its compact, 22-inch (55.9 cm) diameter and 9-inch (22.9 cm) height form a tidy mound. Its small size and moderate growth rate make it appropriate for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border, where its textural leaves contrast well with finer-textured ferns or broad-leaved companions like *Heuchera*. The plant is also well-suited for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While typical hosta-growing zones apply, standard precautions against slugs and deer are recommended due to the plant's low, dense habit and glossy foliage.
