Overview

Registered in 1995 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Torchy' is a small, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its dark green leaves with wide, creamy white margins and a semi-upright, rounded habit. The foliage is slightly glossy above and very shiny beneath, with five vein pairs and a rounded base.

In the Garden

Reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in both height and diameter, 'Torchy' is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its white-margined leaves brighten darker areas, and pairs effectively with ferns, heucheras, or small grasses. The green scapes, rising 16 to 22 inches (40.6 to 55.9 cm), bear typical lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
