Overview
Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Joyce Trott', 'Tom's Dream' is a small-sized hosta distinguished by its blue-green leaves with streaked and mottled medium green, pale yellow, and creamy white flat margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, bear 6 to 7 vein pairs, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a glaucous bloom underneath, with lightly wavy edges and a rounded base.
In the Garden
Reaching a mature diameter of 30 inches (76.2 cm) and a height of 14 inches (35.6 cm), 'Tom's Dream' performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for most hostas. Its small stature and compact habit make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small shade-tolerant perennials complement its variegated foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Tom's Dream' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate controls are recommended.
