Overview

Registered in 2003 by originator J. Dishon, this large hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *H. 'Sea Prize'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Love Pat'* (pollen parent). 'Tom's Baby' is visually distinctive for its nearly round, deeply cupped, intensely corrugated leaves that display a greenish-yellow center with unstable streaks of yellow, golden yellow, and creamy white, bordered by slightly rippled white margins.

In the Garden

Reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter with an upright growth habit, 'Tom's Baby' performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas. Its heavy substance and thick texture make it suitable as a specimen plant or in mixed shade borders, where its corrugated foliage provides contrast alongside finer-textured companions such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, though standard preventative measures may still be warranted in damp conditions.
