Hosta ‘Tobacco Road’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2010
Section classII-6a

Overview

Registered in 2010, 'Tobacco Road' is a large hosta derived from a complex hybrid lineage involving *Hosta* 'Elatior', 'High Noon', 'Great Plains', 'Tokudama', 'Bengee', *H. montana praeflorens*, and 'Zounds'. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its soft, muted bright gold leaf centers that bleed gradually into lime green margins, combined with a very shiny, waxy leaf surface.

In the Garden

Reaching 33 inches (83.8 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, 'Tobacco Road' forms an upright, mound-like clump with a fast growth rate. It performs best in typical hosta-growing zones with partial to dappled shade, where the gold centers remain brightest without scorching. Its large, ovate leaves with cordate bases and slightly wavy margins pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials that contrast in texture or color.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry spells and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the broad, shiny leaves are attractive to both pests.
