Overview
Registered in 1999 by H. Hansen and Shady Oaks Nursery, *Hosta* 'Titanic' is a giant sport distinguished by its very large, heavily textured blue-green leaves with broad, greenish-yellow margins. The foliage is exceptionally shiny on the upper surface and bears a glaucous bloom beneath, with each leaf reaching 13.5 inches (34.3 cm) in length and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in width.
In the Garden
'Titanic' forms a substantial mound 16 inches (40.6 cm) tall and 41 inches (104.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green leaf centers and contrasting margins develop their richest coloration. Given its giant size, this cultivar is best used as a specimen or in the middle to back of shaded borders, where it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement rather than compete with its scale.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the large, tender leaves in typical hosta-growing zones.
