Overview
Registered in 1986 by F. Williams and C. Williams, 'Tinker Bell' is a small variegated hosta derived from a hybrid of *Hosta sieboldii* 'Alba'. The cultivar is distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped leaves with medium green margins and a contrasting lighter center, reaching 4 inches (10.2 cm) in length and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in width with four vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Tinker Bell' forms a compact clump approximately 6 inches (15.2 cm) in diameter and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with other small woodland perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its diminutive size also makes it an excellent choice for trough gardens or miniature hosta collections.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Tinker Bell' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
