Year registered1996
Section classI-5b

Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance', 'Tiffney's Godzilla' was registered in 1996 and is classified as a giant hosta. It is distinguished by its very large, medium green leaves with wide, gold, slightly rippled margins, forming a substantial, upright mound.

In the Garden

Reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in height and 52 inches (132.1 cm) in diameter, this fast-growing cultivar is best sited in partial to full shade, where its gold margins hold best color. Its imposing size makes it suitable as a specimen or as a bold accent in the middle to back of a shaded border, where it pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. It is not suitable for containers due to its giant stature.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection from deer in areas where they are prevalent.
