Overview
Registered in 2002, 'Tidal Pool' is a giant hosta cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Great Expectations' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its intensely corrugated, nearly round blue-green leaves with heavily rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a large, mound-like clump reaching 26 inches (66 cm) in height and 64 inches (163 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials that contrast its bold texture. Its substantial size makes it unsuitable for containers but effective as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry spells, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Tidal Pool' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its heavy substance and corrugated surface may offer some resistance.
