Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Thelonius' is a small blue-green cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Halcyon' as its pod parent. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its compact mound of broadly ovate, slightly rippled blue-green leaves with cordate bases and dull surfaces, producing near-white flowers on scapes up to 28 cm (11 in) tall.
In the Garden
'Halonius' forms a moderate-growing mound 25 cm (10 in) tall and 81 cm (32 in) wide, making it suitable for the front of shade borders, rock gardens, or as a groundcover in partial to full shade. Its small size and attractive clump habit pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other small hostas. The cultivar is also appropriate for container culture where space is limited.
Care Notes
Plant in well-drained, humus-rich soil and water regularly during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Thelonius' is susceptible to slug and deer damage and benefits from protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
