Overview
Registered in 2007 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sir Richard', 'The Queen' is a large, blue-green hosta with creamy white to white margins. The broadly ovate, lightly cupped leaves measure 9 inches long by 8 inches wide, with 12 to 15 vein pairs and a glaucous bloom on the underside; the margins are 1 to 2 inches wide, medium green, slightly rippled, and the leaf surface is dull above with moderate corrugation.
In the Garden
'The Queen' reaches 17 inches in height and 36 inches in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its blue-green center and white margins pair well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials that contrast in texture or color. This cultivar is not suited for container culture due to its large mature size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage; monitor regularly and use barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
