Overview
Registered in 2005, *Hosta* 'Technicolor' is a large, upright cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, derived from a first-generation seedling of *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict'. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with heavily rippled, multicolored margins that display streaks of light green, greenish yellow, pale yellow, and creamy white, combined with a glaucous bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature size of approximately 22 inches (55.9 cm) in both height and diameter, with scapes extending 25 to 29 inches (63.5 to 73.7 cm). It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where its variegated margins remain stable. Its moderate growth rate and substantial leaf substance make it suitable for mixed shade borders or as a specimen plant; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor regularly and employ barriers or repellents where pressure is high.
